1″ Hail Storm – Burnsville


The National Weather Service received reports of hail of as big as one inch in diameter falling in and around Burnsville during the storm on Saturday, May 19th, which struck primarily between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, CBS Minnesota says that trees were blown over near McAndrews Road and County Road 11, as well as along Burnhaven Drive, Nicollet Avenue and 134th Street.

Large hail, heavy rain and strong winds also were reported in such neighboring cities as Savage, Apple Valley, Bloomington and Eagan.

The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Burnsville and surrounding cities shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday. A flood advisory advisory went into effect after that warning expired at 8:45.

Saturday’s storms caused nearly 8,000 homes in the Twin Cities, including several hundred in Burnsville, to lose electricity for parts of Saturday and Sunday. As of 2:40 p.m. today, Xcel Energy says about 200 homes still remained without electric.
